Alexandra Simpson is an interdisciplinary artist with a background in dance, music, physical theatre, writing and mask. She has a BFA in Performance Acting from Ryerson Theatre School and a Masters in Documentary Media from Ryerson University. Alexandra has created and produced a number of audience immersive works including Hiatus (Ryerson New Voices, 2013), Campbell House Haunting (Campbell House, 2013), Surviving Speares (Fringe, 2013), and Pit Sublime (Alumnae Theatre, 2014). She is on the board for Common Boots Theatre (formerly Theatre Columbus) and is a collaborator in their Devised Theatre Lab. Most recently Alexandra was in Calgary with Swallow-A-Bicycle Theatre working on a collective creation mask work about the Alberta tar sands to be finished in September 2016. She is the artistic leader of Terra Incognita Collecitve (terraincogco.org) a mask documentary performance group that creates environmentally focused theatre. She is interested in documentary theatre and degrowth environmentalism and how performance, art and community can converge into a tool for social activism.
